GRA inspects electronic VAT issuance in Accra
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has embarked on special operations, which focused on some shops in some parts of the Greater Accra region.
The exercise is part of moves by the GRA to ensure total compliance with the electronic VAT laws.

Some of the places visited were New Chapter Enterprise in Nyamekye, Fawaz Africa, Continental Hardware and Suppliers both in Kasoa, Madagascar E-Sports Arena, Kent’s Cup Coffee both in West Hills Mall, Cofkans Company Ltd in Weija barrier, TSF Hamburger inside EU – Chinatown and other two.
The selected shops and companies engaged by the GRA to pilot the electronic-VAT initiative, aimed at improving transparency in tax collections.

The GRA arrested the Managers from the visited places to assist the Police CID in their investigations.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, the Accra Area Manager for Enforcement at the Ghana Revenue Authority, Joseph Annan said, some centers were suspected to be issuing VAT invoices outside the electronic system that was installed by the GRA.
According to him, they have arrested the managers of those branches and they’re sending them to the head office to take their statements then the CID will take over from there but their offense is the issuance of non-electronic VAT invoice which means that they are not issuing VAT through the electronic system.
He indicated that the exercise will continue as more centers are going to be rolled onto the system this year.
